How can I add and manage videos?

It's nice to sit and watch a movie, and if you have a video camera, you may be taking videos that you'd love to show off to your friends. Videos are a type of assets in your Vox account, items which can be easily added and displayed on your site.

Adding Videos

The Organize page makes it easy to add photos and manage all of your items in one place. To get started, hover over My Vox in the on any Vox page and click Organize in the drop down menu that appears. Select the Videos type on the Organize sidebar and you'll see all of the videos you've added so far.

To add more videos, there's a New... button on the top of the screen. Click this button of these to open the insert dialog.

The insert dialog has several tabs for options of where to add video from.

Uploading Video

The default option for adding videos to your Vox library is My Computer (Upload). This allows you to take videos from your computer and add them to Vox. You can upload one at a time, or do multiples at once.

Tip: Vox lets you upload flv, avi, 3gp, mov, mp4, and mp2 files. If your video is in a different file type, you may need to open it up in an editor and convert it.

The size limit for each uploaded video file is 50MB. To learn more about that, read .

  • Click the Browse button to select your file. If you wish to add more than one, a new box will appear after selecting the each one.
  • Once you have chosen the files you wish to upload, you can set tags which will be set for each item being uploaded. There's more info under .
  • You can also set privacy settings for who is able to see your videos. See for the options on this.
  • When you click save, the videos will be uploaded, and now they are available in your library.
    Note: If your files are large, the upload process may take some time - this upload speed depends on your internet connection. If it takes too long, you may wish to try a smaller file.

Video files will be uploaded using the filename as the title. A thumbnail will be created from a frame in the movie. You can easily change the title and add captions and other information - see for the tips on editing your photos.

Using Amazon to find Movies

Click on the Amazon tab to find items through Amazon. Amazon has a large number of videos listed in their stores, making it easy to find what you are looking for. The Amazon tab will not only search the selection of DVDs/box sets of TV series on their site, but current releases/showtimes as well! Videos on Amazon are information about that movie rather than something you could watch.

  • Use the drop down menu to choose which Amazon site you want to search: Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon JP, or Amazon FR.
  • To search for an item, enter the title into the search box. You can also enter the ASIN code or the Amazon URL to find the specific movie that you are trying to find.
  • This will show you the results for this search along with page numbers at the bottom if your search provides more than 10 results. Select one or .
  • You can also set privacy settings for who is able to see your videos. See for the options on this.
  • When you press save, the album will be added to your library.

Videos will be added, along with some Amazon information. The title and an image of the cover will be added to the detail in your library, if those items are available on Amazon. You can easily change these values and fill in more info about each book including your own personal notes or review about the item - see for the tips on editing.

On the individual page for each video from Amazon, you'll also see a link to Blog this, and depending on whether you're on your own blog or someone else's blog, you may also see a link to Add to your Vox library. Read for more information.

Using YouTube to find Videos

Another option for adding videos is by using YouTube. YouTube is a video sharing service, and you may find that you'd like to move some of the videos from there into your Vox account.

  • Select the YouTube tab from the insert videos dialog.
  • You can search for a video by entering the tags on a video, the YouTube ID number, or the YouTube URL. You can also find a single YouTube member's videos by searching for their member name.
  • The results for your search will be shown with 12 results per page, and you can browse through all the result pages by using the page numbers shown below your results. Select one or .
  • You can also set privacy settings for who is able to see your videos. See for the options on this.
  • When you press save, the videos will be uploaded, and now they are available in your library.

Using iFilm to find Videos

iFilm is a online video network, and you can share some of their videos with your Vox friends.

  • Select the iFilm tab from the insert videos dialog.
  • Search by keyword for the videos you'd like. In the search box, enter a keyword that describes the video you're attempting to add.
  • This will show you the most recent videos with that keyword. Select one or .
  • You can also set privacy settings for who is able to see your videos. See for the options on this.
  • When you press save, the videos will be uploaded, and now they are available in your library.

Tips for Searching

Vox offers several search methods that may help you quickly find a specific video from Amazon or YouTube so that you can add it to your blog.

Inserting Videos into Posts

When you are Composing a post, there is an option to insert videos into your posts to spotlight them alongside words or descriptions. This allows you to find videos already in the library or add new videos.

This process is outlined in , and the areas you can insert from when adding videos are as follows:

  • My Vox Library - these are all of the videos you already had added to your account.
  • My Computer (Upload) - upload new video files - as described above.
  • Amazon - add new videos from Amazon - as described above.
  • YouTube - add new videos from YouTube - as described above.
  • iFilm - add new videos from iFilm - as described above.

Any item that you add from this screen using the Upload, Amazon, YouTube or iFilm tabs will be added to your library for easy use in the future.

Also, on the individual page for any of the videos in your Vox library, you'll see a link to Blog this, which is a quick way to start a post with that specific video already inserted for you. Read for more information.

When you insert playable videos that you've uploaded into your post, it will show up with both a thumbnail image from the video if possible and a play arrow to distinguish the video from nonplayable video. To play your video, click the item. If you use the Large size option when inserting, you will be able to play the file directly from the main page of the blog, in addition to clicking on the item.

Note: For videos you've uploaded from your computer, the video will automatically begin playing when someone clicks through to the individual item's page.

Video Options

If you add a video file to your library that you change your mind about, you can always delete it. The Organize > Video area has a Delete option once you select the video item.
